Opening Ceremonies

The opening ceremonies were held at the base of the Whister and Blackcomb lifts in the Whistler Village. They had the parade of athletes from each of the 16 countries that were represented in the competition.

There was the usual boring introduction of the local officials and representatives from all the groups who helped organize the event. Two RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) officers were standing at attention on the stage. They are the ones in the red uniforms.

Some indians from a local tribe were performing one of their ritual dances.

The USA athletes take the stage. They were putting on a show and getting the crowd all pumped up. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a good shot of the Italian delegation. One of them really got the crowd going by doing pulvic thrusts in rapid-fire fashion.

Then the Canadians followed out next, who tried to one-up the Americans. They did a very good job, too...
